The photograph above shows Pednandrea Bakery in 1910. Standing close to the site of Pednandrea mine. Parts of the original building were used by the mine as stables, obviously still useful in 1910 judging by the delivery wagons of the time! The chimney to the far left of the picture is the mine’s most visible existing relic and has recently been restored as a Historic Monument. Affectionately known by the locals as “Pednandrea Stack”, this imposing structure still dominates the local skyline. Originally a ventilation shaft, it played an integral part in the success of Pednandrea mine which in its heyday was one of the biggest producers of copper in Europe. The property was extensively damaged by a bomb during the Second World War when the roof was lost. Berryman’s Bakery bought the property in 1964 after it had lain idle for some years. Since then the company, which is a Family Partnership has extensively redeveloped the premises and is proud to maintain the baking tradition in the area. The ever changing needs of the customer has led to new processes being employed that enables us to reach customers further afield with our
“Traditional Cornish Fayre”.
